Serafina and the Twisted Staff picks up just a few weeks after the end of the first book when Serafina and her allies defeated a dark evil preying on the children visiting the Biltmore Estate.

It is the second novel in the Serafina Series and the sequel to Serafina and the Black Cloak. When Seraphina begins to suspect a plot against the Ardmagar Comonot, she must lie to warn Prince Lucian of the dangers without revealing the secrets of her parentage, but her lies begin to unravel as her secrets play a large role in her suspicions. Serafina lives under the Biltmore Estate with her father, who is the estate’s handyman and mechanic. During her nighttime rambles, Serafina notices that many animals are leaving the forest surrounding the Biltmore estate where she lives. Serafina is close friends with Braeden Vanderbilt, the nephew of George and Edith Vanderbilt. It is the first in the middle-grade Serafina series, its sequel, Serafina and the Twisted Staff, published in 2016. A mysterious series of attacks test Serafina’s role as Biltmore’s protector, culminating in a tragedy that tears Serafina’s best friend and only ally, Braeden Vanderbilt, from her side. Serafina has slipped into a comfortable routine at Biltmore.
