Perfectly safe.

I found it to be dirty, too crowded, and experienced quite a bit of crime while i lived there for about a year before moving further away. The only unsafe thing I'd say is pickpockets/phone thefts, and that's pretty rare - just be mindful of flashing your wallet about if you're alone at night.

Walked around at midnight plenty of times. With Rupert Penry-Jones, Phil Davis, Steve Pemberton, Sam Stockman.

Some of the wall is still there: All that remains of the wall are a few (albeit substantial) sections, some of which can be seen in the grounds of the Museum of London, in the Barbican Estate and around Tower Hill. While that's considerably less than the 14,486 offences reported in Westminster (London's most dangerous borough), it's a fair chunk more than in Kingston upon Thames (the capital's safest borough), …

I live in Mile End and what I can say is that it's full of Muslims there ( nothing against it ). I walk through this area a lot - I think it's totally safe. I'd say it's very safe. Is it really as bad as some people suggest? Hey everyone, I'm relocating to London and I've found a place I'm considering between Whitechapel and Shoreditch (south Bethnal Green) near Vallance Road. Definitely not, some wanker threw a rubber chicken at me there once. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. or "it's like Detroit, carry a rape alarm".

I've also checked on some crime statistics websites and the things that worry me is reports of burglary on and around the street. I lived in Shoreditch (by the high street) and I felt fairly safe, although people I knew got mugged and there are dodgy types milling around. it really depends what you like in your area. Don't bother asking here OP, people here love to pretend London is safer than it is so they feel better about living here.

Have a walk round the area a bit and see what you think, everyone's different :).

I even went through on the tube last night during rush hour and there were beggars going up and down the train around that stop.

The place is beautiful, but the area is a bit of a put off. where in whitechapel? I've been to London several times but I am still unfamiliar with the area. It can be quite busy - and at times that can mean a lot of people drinking.

It's pretty much a shit hole if you ask me. There's not actually a gate there any more or at any of the other 'gates' of London City. OP are you female? It's a nice place but I've spoken to a few people about the safety in the neighbourhood and had very conflicting reports (some people say it's not a great neighbourhood with drug drops and street walkers happening) while others say there is nothing to worry about. We decided to put an offer down on the flat and are waiting to hear if it's been accepted. Xx.

Based solely on that limited and hopefully unusual experience, I'm inclined to say "Yes, it's as bad or even worse". They also like to pretend it's "the same in any big city" despite clear variations in crime rates per capita. There's a gym right next to Whitechapel tube station!

They like to repeat mantras like this to resolve cognitive dissonance over stabbings, muggings and crime. bethnal green is really nice while whitechapel is a bit of a hole these days. I just moved away after living on vallance Road for 6 months while doing an internship near old Street. I like it. The big Sainsburys there has awesome cooked chicken wings/thighs. Most places in central are. I've lived there for 2 years now, no problems at all. The muscleworks gym is just ten minutes walk up in bethnal green. etc . Are you a victorian prostitute? Thanks everyone for the feedback and replies! Big homeless/oddball problem but never felt threatened just weirded out. Girls I know tell me they feel scared late at night on their own, but if you're used to the inner city I'm sure you'll be fine. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Another visible section is at St Alphage Gardens, and other sections form part of the walls or foundations of modern buildings and are only visible from inside those buildings. The East End is nowadays a hot-spot for party-goers. Such bollocks. The site may not work properly if you don't, If you do not update your browser, we suggest you visit, Press J to jump to the feed.
Please ignore the sarcastic comments here. I dont really like walking through it - doesnt feel particularly safe to me, even though i can save a good amount on tube costs by doing so. I've worked around Whitechapel (Royal London Hospital) for a while now, live pretty close in South Hackney, and know the area well. Worked there until recently and still visit often at night. I lived round there for 9 years and honestly, no. You clearly haven't seen much of London, like most of the white, middle class men who post here about how "everywhere is safe". Thanks for correcting me. One of the largest and most readily accessed fragments of the wall stands just outside Tower Hill tube station, with a replica statue of the Emperor Trajan standing in front of it. I walk through this area a lot - I think it's totally safe. Was thinking of buying a place around there.

How do you unlock the hideout in Whitechapel? I live and work in East London, so if you have any questions feel free to DM me. Sorry for the random message! It's not the most beautiful part of London, but it's a good location, in terms of transport and proximity to fun areas such as Shoreditch. I got a job in London and I will be moving in about a month. Yes, it's safe, and it's perfectly fine to walk around in the evenings. There is this small street market close to Sainsbury's that they only speak Arabic. It's mostly fine except there are a few spots where young guys like to park their cars and be loud at each other all evening, but even walking right past them I never really felt unsafe.

Why, there was even a serial murderer there! If you're not involved in unsavoury stuff you'll be safe. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Hmmmm. I've worked around Whitechapel (Royal London Hospital) for a while now, live pretty close in South Hackney, and know the area well. Depending on where you stay the closest gym is fairly far away (close to Aldgate). Whoops, you're right! I'd suggest gauging the area for yourself and taking into account your own situation - do you have a bike, would you be walking home late at night by yourself, would you come across as a naive tourist, are you a lone female? I work on Brick Lane and walk from Shadwell DLR station each day so I specifically walk by this area.

Great if you want hardcore. You won't get an unbiased opinion here I fear - it'll either be "whaddaya scared of, it's the safest place on earth!" ... doesnt feel particularly safe to me, even though i can save a good amount on tube costs by doing so. It's fine. At all times of the day.

but then again, how much you can tolerate bullshit?
Created by Ben Court, Caroline Ip. Safety was never a concern in the 3 years i lived there. I'm looking at a great flat near Aldgate East, specifically on Plumber's Row. Cookies help us deliver our Services. Most places in central are. 10 mins walk into Shoreditch, or 10 mins south to Tower Bridge/Wapping. only kidding, its pretty bad.

It's fookin ruff, lad. No place in London is entirely safe either.

It's also really easy to get some party enhancers if you're into that kinda stuff, generally quite bohemian. Would love your thoughts and feedback on this and how safe the neighbourhood is, especially at night. East london is amazing, you'll have a great time here! What kind of things are you worried about? The area has charm and has a certain level of grime. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. i'll come and burgle your house. You haven't heard of it, because it is extremely residential, only houses and not much else to do. Riots only happen every other Thursday - plan your outdoor activities accordingly and you'll be fine. I've lived around that area for 6 years and always felt safe.

As well, across the street in front of the Burger King, there's a large population of some people who have lived a rough life. Do your own research and visit the area. If you're not involved in unsavoury stuff you'll be safe.

Whitechapel is fine, not much violent crime/theft but you will find loads of druggies.

A fast-tracked inspector, a hardened detective sergeant, and an expert in historical homicides investigate modern crimes with connections to the past in the Whitechapel district of London. But I never felt unsafe walking back from the Tube at night. I’ve been to Aldgate East a few times recently (about 8-9pm at night) and it’s quite intimidating compared to other parts of London - there is a significant homeless population and they are much more aggressive asking for money than other parts, as in they will come right up to you on the street as you are walking with their hands out so you have to walk around them - this happens multiple times at night and made me feel uneasy even with a guy with me! Stayed a few streets away from the hospital for a couple of months until i got a proper place, i didn't mind it at all. I've been living in this part of East London for over a year. Been offered drugs maybe 5 times, never been mugged once, never even seen a mugging.

Very dangerous.
